PLACES TO EXPLORE

  • Patchwork hills of the Cotswolds
  • Waterways of the Norfolk Broads
  • Glorious Devon and Cornish coastlines
  • Gardens at Sissinghurst, Sandringham and Kew
  • Stunning Lake District
  • Cathedrals cities of Canterbury, Winchester and Lincoln
  • Opulent Victorian and Georgian resorts of Brighton and Bath
  • Vibrant industrial cities
  • Roman era such as York, Chester and Durham

Culturally, England is a land of endearing contradictions and eccentricities: We invented a sport in cricket, at which we rarely win. We maintain a national obsession with the weather, yet see little climatic variation. We introduced the world to political democracy, but are fiercely proud of our monarchy. Our favourite meal is the Indian curry, we drink warm beer and in a crisis, we reach for a cup of tea. We give our towns silly names such as Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold and our pastimes include everything from train-spotting and pigeon fancying to bog-snorkling and cheese rolling! Meeting the English, you'll experience an open and tolerant people, with bucket-loads of character and an inventive sense of humour which pervades every level of our lives.

England's countryside is a land of understated but much celebrated natural beauty. Within this small country you'll see contrasting landscapes: central England is home to the softly rolling patchwork hills of the Cotswolds whilst in the north you'll find the rugged and barren moorlands of Yorkshire. The East sees pastoral lowlands, lush green fields and the mellow waterways of the Norfolk Broads whilst in the West you'll discover eerie moors, sweeping bays and rugged cliff faces along the glorious Devon and Cornish coastlines. England is home to some of the world's most famous and pristinely cultivated flower gardens at Sissinghurst, Sandringham and Kew, whilst more rugged and untamed in its natural beauty, the stunning Lake District offers a combination of tranquil waters and awe-inspiring mountain dales.

The Lake District, Cumbria, England

England's towns and cities, and the vast history that comes with them, are each an attraction in themselves. Sharing a continent with Europe and a language with the USA, London benefits from the best influences of both; the result is a truly world-class city with an utterly unique atmosphere.

Outside of London England's other centres of population showcase the nation's rich and varied history. Glorious cathedrals cities such as Canterbury, Winchester and Lincoln, medieval towns like Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford-upon-Avon, opulent Victorian and Georgian resorts such as Brighton and Bath, vibrant industrial cities such as Manchester and Liverpool and towns whose origins lie in the Roman era such as York, Chester and Durham are all just waiting to be discovered. Not to mention a host of lesser known villages and townships the length and breadth of the country each with its own story to tell.

Experiencing England, you'll discover a truly great nation. England is a place to sit back and enjoy quirky hospitality and past-times, to see first-hand a host of world-famous sites, to uncover hidden gems, to soak up glorious history and a place in which to simply indulge in the great outdoors. England is an unrivalled touring destination for the modern traveller.
