Arriving in to Edinburgh Airport, enjoy a private transfer taking you directly to the door of your central Edinburgh accommodation. Today, relax or explore this magnificent city independently. From the winding streets of the cobbled Old Town to the wide avenues of the opulent Georgian New there's plenty to see. Enjoy the national museums and galleries in the shadow of the Burns Monument before strolling through Princes Street Gardens or climbing to Arthur's Seat for spectacular views over the city. You may choose to head for the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith Docks or view the modern Scottish Parliament building before climbing the Royal Mile to the city's centrepiece at the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, home to the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Stone of Destiny and St Margaret's Chapel.

Loch Ness, Glencoe & the Highlands

Today you'll embark on an epic journey through the heart of the Highlands. Joining a small-group tour, catch a glimpse of Stirling Castle or the National Wallace Monument on route to the Highlands. We pass along Scotland's most famous valley, Glencoe, where you'll be mesmerised by the beautiful cliff faces and steep slopes. After Glencoe, we enter a deep glacial valley, known as the Great Glen. Passing through the town of Fort William you travel in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, before arriving at Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness. Take the opportunity to go in search of the monster on a fantastic boat cruise, or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery on the banks. From Loch Ness, we return South through the mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, passing Blair Castle on route back to Edinburgh.

St Andrews and the Fishing Villages of Fife

Another small-group tour is scheduled today. Leaving Edinburgh we pass over the famous Forth Bridge. We then enter the Kingdom of Fife and stop in the traditional fishing village of Anstruther (known as 'Enster' locally), where you can check out the old cobbled streets and take a walk along the seafront to the harbour. From Anstruther, we continue to our highlight, the medieval town of St Andrews. St Andrews is also home to the third oldest university in Britain and a beautiful ruined castle perched on a cliff; you'll have plenty of time to explore this fascinating town before returning through the rolling countryside of central Fife. On route back to Edinburgh, we'll pass Loch Leven, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned by her Protestant nobility.

Edinburgh Day Tour

Today, you have a free day in Edinburgh which includes a two-hour small-group tour of the Scottish capital. Journey along Princes Street passing the Scott's Monument beneath the impressive Edinburgh Castle; you'll hear about the famous building itself and the gorgeous gardens that sit below it. Other highlights include the Grassmarket, with its array of small boutique shops, traditional Scottish pubs, and restaurants and Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile and Old Town as well as the Georgian "New Town". Back towards the city centre, we pass the impressive St Mary's Cathedral, one of three cathedrals in Edinburgh before gaining impressive views from Calton Hill. In the shadow of Arthur's Seat, we see the regal Holyrood Palace before our tour ends. Having gained an insight in the history and culture of the city the rest of your day is free to explore independently.

Loch Lomond National Park, Kelpies and Stirling Castle

Loch Lomond, Scotland

On your final full day in Edinburgh, we head out into the renowned Scottish countryside once more. On the way to Loch Lomond you will stop at the Kelpies Monument; these two horses' heads stand as a testament to the horse power that drove the industrial development of Central Scotland. From here you head to the shores of Loch Lomond, which is Scotland's largest loch and is protected as Scotland's first National Park. Later we continue to discover Trossachs or 'The Highlands in Miniature', where the Lowlands meet the Highlands. Steep mountains, shimmering lochs, and thick forests: this area is stunning. By afternoon we continue to the city of Stirling where you can visit one of Scotland's most magnificent castles before enjoying a short journey back to Edinburgh passing the Kelpies once again before arriving back in the capital.

Return Home

This morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before checking out. If you have time you may choose to leave your bags in storage and continue to explore the city or complete some last-minute souvenir shopping. Then you are collected from your hotel for your private transfer back to Edinburgh Airport before checking-in for your return flight. If you plan to travel onwards in Britain you can collect your rental vehicle at the airport for swift access to the major routes and English countryside, or alternatively board a train at Waverley and head South to London.
